A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer camp in the region has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, described Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "rapidly".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She explained Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member notified the police a second time.

She said the man then played the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
